Is Betting Legal in Ghana?
Short answer: regulated betting is legal for adults in Ghana when the operator and activity are authorised by the Gaming Commission of Ghana. The governing framework is the Gaming Act 2006 (Act 721).
Minimum age
Act 721 prohibits a licence holder from allowing a person under 18 to participate in gaming. Operator KYC may require proof of age and identity.
How to check an operator
- Search the current GCG licensed-operators page.
- Match the exact trade name, legal entity, licence number and website domain.
- Confirm the product category covers what you intend to use.
- Re-check the status before depositing; a visible website is not proof of authorisation.
The 2026 page reviewed lists 1XBET and BETWINNER for sports betting and online casino, and MELBET for sports betting. LINEBET was not found. The page itself does not publish an entity, licence number or domain for those trade names, so request or verify those details separately.
Complaints
Preserve account statements, transaction references, operator terms and support messages. Use the operator’s formal complaint process first. If unresolved and the operator is Ghana-licensed, follow the Gaming Commission complaint route.
What “legal” does not guarantee
A regulator listing does not guarantee a bonus, payout time, winning outcome or uninterrupted service. It also does not prove that a similarly named mirror or app belongs to the listed operator. Check the live offer, KYC, payment and responsible-gambling rules separately.
If the public register does not show the legal entity, licence number or domain, ask the Commission to match them. Do not rely only on a footer badge supplied by the operator.
Online casino versus sports betting
